STEIN VALLEY
TRIBAL HERITAGE PARK
INTERPRETIVE CENTRE

This project we developed in 1992 as part of the effort to save the Stein Valley from logging, and to create a Park, to be administered jointly by the Lil'wat Nation, and the Lytton Indian Band. The interpretive centre contained four buildings, the Main Cultural Building, a Museum, a Workshop, and a Hikers' Hostel.



Site Plan The buildings were oriented to the Summer Solstice Sunrise, as viewed on the site; with the first beam of light entering the building through the roof of the main building, and striking a thin line of light along the floor.
Site Plan The traditional Sh'eeshtik'in, or pithouse (Kikwilly House), was developed as the architectural theme, and the "village" layout included the central sturcture, used for gathering, and display, surrounded by the other components.
